Following the recent Community Council elections, Bothwell, Burnside, Carluke, Halfway, Rutherglen and Symington failed to meet the criteria to reform.

The number of candidates elected was less than half of the total maximum permitted membership, as specified for the Community Council area therefore no Community Council was constituted.

Therefore, South Lanarkshire Council has prepared a further notice for a second call for nominations for these six areas.

If the minimum membership is not met after this second call for nominations, the Community Council will not be constituted.

You can check if you are eligible to stand in any of these  active community council areas by using your postcode.

Under the terms of the amended Scheme for establishment of Community Councils existing members of the above Community Councils will cease to hold office at midnight on Wednesday 21 October 2026. They are eligible for re-election under the amended terms and conditions.

Residents of voting age who are on the electoral register and meet the qualifying criteria can be nominated by a proposer and seconder for membership of their Community Council by completing a nomination form and returning it to the Community Council Liaison Officer no later than 4pm on 12 November 2026.

Notification of any elections will be provided in due course.
